“Mere servants we are of the truth… Whirling above the remnants of our past. Struggling to breathe, scraping the flesh from its bone. As the days darken, and the breeze thins in the depths of the void. No wounds to heal, no filth to wash, as the throne cares not for it all … Only the numb be brave enough to defy what others had left to decay. To claim, once-and-for-all, the lawful right to be embraced by those in the Halls of the Great!”

About

Crún is an Interactive Fiction meets Kingdom Manager type of game, set in a medieval fantasy world. Sort of a blend between storytelling and carefully selected mixture of genres and minigames. The game revolves around being unexpectedly bestowed to rule a kingdom and face the many challenges that the people might bring forth to you. Whilst facing your inner demons, keeping the realm as a whole and out of harm’s way. Knowing that not everyone will be in your favor, and that the consequences of your actions might have a greater influence than one might think. As those are solely responsible for turning the wheels of time, and bringing this world to life.

The core (interactive part) of the game is heavily inspired by classic gamebooks such as the Fighting Fantasy series from back in the days, while the remainder from the love for art and thirst for quality games. It is worth mentioning that the narrative is aided by a long standing history and passion for fiction, which now goes well beyond several decades. Bringing forth thought provoking, hard to find and lasting stories with characters that speak for themselves and act upon. Often rooted in a twisted sense of realism where the constant expectations of the unknown is always searching for the new. As with all, being experimental is a major part of the journey.

The aim of the game is to create a new sense of accomplishment by playing a mostly text driven narrative, as those otherwise can become stale if not done with taste. The sum of the parts, in this case, make up the whole, as much as the intent behind those. Years were spent on planning to find a way to deliver something that is out of the ordinary, interesting and immersive to play. Only now the project has started to materialize, of which now you can see the first glimpse of!

Features (Gameplay)

The importance of your actions start when you first select your fate (King of Queen), and distribute your character points for use in personal and public (kingdom) situations. Keeping a watchful eye on where you wish to reinforce your talents (or your realm’s), as it will be rare to have the opportunity to change any of those! Then you will be escorted to the Great Hall, where you will meet the people from across the realm and beyond; both representing one person, a group or your inner psyche. They will not just speak of their issues, but share more of their persona!

But this is only the beginning, as conversing will not be the sole task of yours, as the realm will need the helping aid of your Grace: Managing the inner workings, keeping the line in order, and protecting the realm. To aid you in your quest, you could consult any of the available facilities at any time (marked by the cards at the bottom of the screen: Realm, Chancery, Exchequer and Summons); all which can come up during a conversation. And if the need to build and upgrade comes to play, the Ward will be at your service: Where the majority of progress is being done, in the form of a small adventure, akin to gamebooks, where you will be able to jump into the role of an adventurer, in a more fantastical setting (with monsters, beasts and magic)-- a small game within a game. All the while your Grace will encounter different minigames to challenge your abilities!
